Porcelain painting

For February half term, we are offering this fabulous workshop painting plates to show Chelmsford's historic landmarks and buildings - or something of your choice!

 

Use our special decorative pens to draw on a souvenir plate then take your masterpiece home to display.  Great fun for all the family and suitable for ages 4+ and the adults can do their own plate too!

Easter at the Museum

Wednesday Wonders workshops are aimed at the whole family, working together.  All materials are provided and you can take home your masterpieces afterwards.

The art and crafts of World War 1

2015 marks 100 years since the Essex Regiment joined World War One.  The war gave rise to some great artwork, from 'trench art' done by soldiers, to wartime medals.  This workshop gives you the chance to be inspired by our collections to create your own piece of war art.

Annual Museum Lecture

'The Recent History of The Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation' by Roy Chandler, Director of Essex Waterways Limited. 

 

Roy will describe the history of this important waterway which paved the way for the industrialisation of Chelmsford and surroundings, and particularly the last 40 years since the Inland Waterways Association became involved.  Essex Waterways took responsibility for the Navigation in 2005 and saved it from closure, and Roy will describe its ongoing operation and restoration.

Big Biology Day

Changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age

This training event is designed to allow primary history co-ordinators and classroom teachers the opportunity to develop their teaching of early British history through an exciting mix of theory and hands-on practical activities.

 

Together, Essex County Council and Chelmsford Museum have designed a training event that will explore changes in National Curriculum content and contribute to pupils' understanding of the 'long arc of development' in their local area and other parts of Britain.

Wildlife Fun Day

Primary Science Teacher Forum

A chance to exchange ideas, planning and resources about the new curriculum with other primary teachers and Sandford Mill’s resident science specialists.
